What You Can Expect

There’s no zoo in the world quite like Taronga! With a plethora of furry, feathered and scaly residents, its gorgeous bushland setting, and the breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour, it’s no wonder this is one of the most famous wildlife viewing experiences in the world. Get ready for an animal-mazing day out!

The zoo is located at Mosman on the north shore and is open 365 days a year. Getting there is part of the fun. Ferries from Circular Quay depart every half hour. Cruise transfers are also available from Darling Harbour, and parking is available if you decide to drive.

The zoo is home to more than 4,000 animals from over 350 species — many of which are rare or endangered. You can explore via a range of specialist trails and zones, including Australian Walkabout, Reptile World, Tiger Trek, Great Southern Oceans, and the Rainforest Trail.

As well as simply walking around and spotting the animals, you can enjoy a range of cinematic adventures at the Centenary Theatre, listen to zookeeper talks (check the schedule when you arrive), and settle in to watch the daily wildlife presentations — including the fabulous Free Flight Bird Show and the famous Seal Show. They are not to be missed and are included in the cost of your ticket.

Also included is a ride on the Sky Safari cable car. Take in the sweeping views over the harbour from your gondola carriage, and get a bird’s-eye view of some of the animals! From elephants and giraffes on the ground, to squirrel monkeys playing in the treetops, it’s a lot of fun to see them from high in the sky.

Tip: Download the Taronga Zoo app before you arrive (it will help you get the most from your visit). Wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring a hat, sun screen and wet weather clothing as needed (the zoo operates in all weather conditions). Reusable water bottles can be filled from the newly installed drinking water bubblers in the zoo grounds.

This activity is included in the Sydney Flexi Attractions Pass.
