‘This is actually well worth doing. They take photos of you on a blank drop screen before you get on so they can photoshop you into different screen shots. You can purchase at the end if you wish. The ride itself is fantastic. It’s slow enough so that you really get to check out the views properly. It would be interesting to do this again at intervals just to see how Melbourne’s skyline is evolving over time. I really recommend this to everyone who visits Melbourne.

  • What You Can Expect

While the construction of the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel courted plenty of controversy, it has become a much-admired part of the Victorian capital’s skyline. Board a 30-minute flight for amazing views of the city and far, far beyond! Each pod can accommodate up to 20 passengers, and you’ll enjoy a comfortable, air-conditioned ride with interesting pre-recorded commentary that covers aspects of Melbourne’s history and culture.

As your pod slowly climb towards the peak of the 120-metre-high wheel, you’ll be able to take in sweeping panoramic views over the city, Docklands, Port Phillip Bay and out to Mount Macedon and the Dandenong Ranges. Spot landmarks like Flemington Racecourse and Melbourne Zoo in the distance.

You can choose from a day flight to take in those incredible views, or a night flight where you’ll be treated to the twinkling lights of the CBD — complemented by the LED illumination of the wheel itself (achieved with thousands of individual LED bulbs). Upgrade to an Encore package and do both! Both flights must be taken on the same day, and The District Docklands offers a plethora of shopping and dining options to keep you amused in between.

Take some time before or after your flight to check out the multimedia display in the boarding area, which provides behind-the-scenes details about the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel.

If you’re looking for a unique way to see the Victorian capital, the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel will take you to the top of the town and back again!
