‘We had a fantastic morning wandering the streets and laneways of Melbourne with our guide. She was so wonderful and informative. The historical facts and inside information about eateries and hidden bars that she shared was amazing. We learnt so much about the history and architecture of Melbourne. It was a great way to start our long weekend and I would definitely recommend it.’

Julie and I had a fantastic time recently doing the Melbourne Laneways Walking Tour. San was our wonderful and informative Guide for the day. San's enthusiasm was present for the whole three hours whether he was explaining Melbourne's colourful past history or answering any questions we raised. The pace of the tour was well suited to us (in our mid-fifties). The morning tea break was well-timed and refreshing. Both Julie and I have lived in Melbourne our whole lives yet we both learnt so much about our wonderful city (when it is not in Lockdown due to Covid 19). I would highly recommend this tour to both Melburnians and interstate tourists.

Very enjoyable and informative tour. Our guide Rob was knowledgeable and had a friendly personality. He paced the walk to our needs and interests. I live in Melbourne but I still learnt so much about the history of our city. I never knew we still had so many old buildings left, many hidden away in lanes but so many in plain view on main streets! As Rob said, we need to learn to look up!!! I would certainly recommend this walking tour to Visitors and Melburnians alike. Not a lot of fitness required just the ability to walk!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. San was a wonderful guide and we learnt the history of Melbourne as well as seeing places in Melbourne we never knew existed. Would thoroughly recommend this tour and we look forward to participating in other tours.

John our guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He explained the history of Melbourne streets and laneways and how they have evolved into today’s city, He spoke in depth about street art protocol which was extremely interesting. He also discussed the arcades and historic buildings, Two hours was a good length of time with coffee and biscuit break in the middle.

An awesome 2.5 hr tour & overview of Melbourne. Our tour guide, Kathy, was very informative & provided us with lots of interesting facts. The tour included the history of Melbourne, a couple of visits to local arts n crafts shops, a coffee & macarone at Brunetti’s (yum), and visits to several of the laneways (including their history). It was well paced, included stops for bathroom visits, time to take photos. A truly wonderful experience. Thank you.

The tour day started of with lots of wind and some rain, but the Tour Guide (Kathy) was fantastic and very informative. The entire Staff were quite amazed at what we were shown and the information that Kathy provided. Considering the weather wasn't the best, the tour surely was. Would definitely book again in the future.

There were seven of us from QLD and we all enjoyed the tour. Our guide was great, and provided lots of history on Melbourne. I would recommend to this tour while visiting Melbourne.

  • Anna

Excellent introduction to Melbourne. Great tour guide - knowledgeable but relaxed style and able to tailor tour to groups questions. Pleased that informative indigenous history was included. Discovered plenty of laneways to return to later!

  • What You Can Expect

This Melbourne Laneway Tour begins in the city centre at St Paul’s Cathedral, where you’ll meet your friendly local guide and the rest of your small group. No two tours are ever the same, but you’ll start by exploring the alleys that branch off into the CBD. They harbour a wealth of incredible street art. View the latest works and perhaps see artists in action.

From there, your guide will lead you around the city’s famous network of laneways and arcades, providing commentary on the architecture and cultural make-up of the CBD as you go. You’ll discover countless quirky cafes, secret shops and tiny galleries, and see parts of the city that many tourists miss. It’s worth having a notebook or your phone handy to jot down the bar and restaurant recommendations that you’ll receive from your guide along the way.

Towards the end of this Melbourne Laneway Tour you’ll have the opportunity to sample a delicious macaron at one of the city’s best patisseries, and then wrap up the experience with a coffee, tea or hot chocolate at a top laneway cafe.

This Melbourne Laneway Tour is a great way to get a feel for the ‘real’ Melbourne — both the old and the new. Enjoy!
