Had an awesome time. Our tour guide David was very knowledgeable and informative. He was also very helpful. The tour was great and the experience on the puffin billy was worth it. The tour guide did a commentary the whole time which was great as we got to find out so much more about the Dandenong Ranges and Melbourne.

Very short trip on the train. Not too good if you sit on the wrong side not much to look at and you miss out on the best photo opportunity.

I was very lucky that we had good weather on the day of the tour. On the journey to the train station, our guide shared with us about the history of Melbourne and the Puffingbilly. I had no idea that back then they actually wanted to close the Puffingbilly for good, until the Puffing Billy Preservation Society was formed to assist in the operation of the train. Thought that fun fact was pretty cool. The train ride itself was 30 mins, one station to the other. I have never taken a steam train before so this was an eyeopener. Sit on the right side of the train for the best view, but I encourage travelers to move around so everyone has a fair chance of seeing the scenery. Let others have a chance to snap their instaworthy photo as well, yeah? The train conductor in the cabin with us was really friendly and he offered to take photos with everyone in the cabin. This trip also includes a quick stop at Sherbrooke Forest, which is in the Dandenongs. It's a bit chilly up there but you get some Bush Billy Tea and lamingtons. After the train ride we also stopped by a quaint town, Sassafras. There was a plant nursery, toy store, Miss Marple's Tearoom (nice tea according to the guide), Tea Leaves, etc. We had about 30 mins here so you might not have time to have tea at Miss Marple's. So after Sassafras we headed back to Melbourne city and reached there around 12 - 1pm. Forgot the exact timing. So mine was a great half-day tour, not too long. Overall, I love it. Great for families and perhaps for those who have never taken a steam train before. Just pray for good weather if not the photos might not turn out so well.

Although slow to pass the natural sights for the treat of your eyes,Puffing Billy is all "airy" with its glassless windows! No, that does not mean that you can dangle your legs outside, better be safe than sorry, but you can easily switch sides to enjoy views both ways and have best photos taken with the Steaming Engine and its driver!

The drive to the rolling mountain range takes around an hour, depending on traffic.
