Looking for ideas for things to see and do on New Zealand’s North Island? In this episode of the Tour the World travel TV series, we join Evergreen Tours on a fabulous journey around New Zealand’s stunning North Island.
The tour starts in Auckland with the opportunity to explore the magnificent City of Sails, before heading north to the Bay of Islands — home to the historic Waitangi Treaty Grounds.
One of the highlights of our stay here is a cruise to Cape Brett and through the famous Hole in the Rock. We also journey further north to Cape Reinga to see where the Tasman Sea officially meets the mighty Pacific Ocean.
Heading back down the island, we drop by the fabulous Hobbiton Movie Set, before making our way to Rotorua — a renowned centre for geothermal activity and the heartland of Māori culture.
A gondola ride up the side of Mount Ngongotaha with Skyline Rotorua is one of the region’s top attractions. We also visit the Rainbow Springs Nature Park to meet New Zealand’s elusive national bird, and explore the Te Puia geothermal park — complete with bubbling mud pools, steaming vents and erupting geysers!
The tour finishes in wonderful Wellington, where we take in the collection of contemporary Māori art at the Te Papa Tongarewa museum.
