‘We enjoyed this three-hour cruise from Darling Harbour to Shark Island. There was an excellent BBQ lunch served, with lots of salad. The prawn and oyster upgrade also looked very nice. You get about an hour to wander around or swim and snorkel off the island. There’s plenty of shade and places to sit and enjoy the spectacular views of Sydney Harbour. It was excellent. I highly recommend this cruise.’ Tamsin H

What you can expect

See some of the very best of the New South Wales capital during this fabulous Sydney Harbour Sightseeing and Lunch Cruise. Relax on board your spacious cruise vessel as you admire the landmark sights and opulent homes that line the harbour foreshore, and enjoy a tasty BBQ buffet lunch. You’ll also get the opportunity to see Shark Island — one of the harbour’s most picturesque locations. This cruise is a relaxed and great value way to experience the magic of Sydney’s world-famous harbour!

Your Sydney Harbour Sightseeing and Lunch Cruise departs the central King Street Wharf on Darling Harbour (city side). You’ll enjoy magnificent views of the city from the moment you step on board. After passing right under the soaring Sydney Harbour Bridge, you’ll cruise past many famous landmarks and locations — including the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, Woolloomooloo’s Finger Wharf and Elizabeth Bay. [More]

As the cruise progresses, the crew will provide engaging live commentary on places of interest along the shoreline. It’s also time to indulge in a BBQ buffet lunch, which is served against one of the most beautiful backdrops in the world. Enjoy a selection of grilled meats, salads and desserts. There’s a licensed bar on board, and drinks are available for purchase. The indoor tables are surrounded by large picture windows, so you can continue to enjoy the passing scenery while you eat.

In due course, your Sydney Harbour Sightseeing and Lunch Cruise will arrive at pretty Shark Island, which is set right in the middle of the harbour. The 1.5-hectare island was named by Sydney’s First People because of its shape (not because of the presence of sharks!). With its grassy areas and picnic facilities, it’s a popular recreational spot for Sydney locals — and as a prime position to watch the start of the annual Sydney Hobart Yacht Race!

Shark Island is part of the Sydney Harbour National Park and an AUD $7pp access fee is payable on board your cruise to go ashore. These funds contribute to the upkeep of the island. Once on the island, you’re free to explore the beautiful foreshore at your own pace, enjoy the 360-degree views, swim or snorkel in the pristine waters around the island (equipment is available for hire or bring your own), or simply relax in the sun.

All too soon it’s time to re-board your cruise vessel for the journey back to Darling Harbour. This Sydney Harbour Sightseeing and Lunch Cruise is a wonderful way to get to know the majestic harbour and take in some of its famous landmarks.

We did the three hour trip to shark island with the buffet lunch included and used a voucher. I probably wouldn't pay full price for this trip, but at this discounted price, it made the trip reasonably good value. It was a colder day so we didn't do the snorkelling or anything when we arrived at the island, but on a hot day it would be great. So long as you read all your conditions and are prepared to pay $7 each to get off at the island, it is not a big deal. The lunch was some salads, chicken, bread rolls, sausages, and potato, and again not too fancy, but satisfying. Overall, we had a pleasant trip and enjoying soaking in the beautiful sites of the sydney harbour.

This cruise leaves from Darling Harbour, Sydney at 12.45pm and includes a barbeque lunch, however due to the inclement weather, a buffet style lunch was served on board. A bar is on board should you wish to have a wine or beer with lunch, however it is an extra cost. The food consisted of various salads, chicken pieces, sausages and bread rolls. There was plenty to eat, but I did not find it very appetising. The cruise takes you across to Shark Island which is approximately 45 minutes from Darling Harbour. If you wish, you can alight at Shark Island for exploration, but it is a very small island and not much to see on the island itself, but lovely views back to the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. In summary, it is always beautiful sailing Sydney Harbour, but in my view, this particular cruise was not good value, although pleasant enough.
