Combining two of the things Australia is best known for — wine and wildlife — this relaxing small group Yarra Valley Food, Wine and Wildlife Tour from Melbourne will introduce you to one of the country’s most renowned wildlife sanctuaries and give you the opportunity to explore two award-winning Yarra Valley wineries.
You’ll depart Melbourne in the morning in air-conditiooned comfort, accompanied by a passionate guide with a thorough knowledge of the Yarra Valley, its wine and the iconic Aussie wildlife you’re about to encounter. [More]
After a lovely drive east, your first stop is Healesville Sanctuary — home to more than 200 species of native Australian animals, birds and reptiles. Healesville Sanctuary is operated by Zoos Victoria and has a mission to conserve Australia’s precious wildlife and wild places. In the lush 30-acre site you’ll meet dingoes, emus, platypus, koalas, kangaroos and more. For those looking to get up close and personal with some of these critters, there’s the option to take part in one of the sanctuary’s Close-up Encounters (additional cost applies)
The next stop on this Yarra Valley Food, Wine and Wildlife Tour from Melbourne is famous Yering Station winery, where you’ll enjoy a wine tasting followed by a delicious a la carte lunch (main course and a glass of wine). There will be plenty of time to take in the sweeping views of the valley.
The last stop of the day is the wonderful family-owned and very famous De Bortoli winery. Here you’ll be treated to a degustation of cheese and wine tastings, and learn about De Bortoli’s third-generation Italian heritage.
The journey back to Melbourne will take you via the picturesque Christmas Hills, and you’ll arrive back at your CBD hotel and around 6.30pm.
This Yarra Valley Food, Wine and Wildlife Tour from Melbourne has something for everyone — stunning scenery, captivating wildlife and the very best Australian food and wine. It’s a superb day out!

We spent a wonderful day with Paul on this tour. If you enjoy animals the sanctuary was nice, not too kid-like or kitchy and the volunteer guide named Margot was terrific, even at 82. The wine tastings were elegant and the lunch was superb. Much better than Napa, less people, not as touristy. A great day.

My mother and I had a great time on this tour. Very worth it. It was raining, so we had the option of doing wine tasting all day rather than stopping at the sanctuary, but we ended up having an amazing day at the sanctuary. with so few visitors due to weather, we had a really awesome up-close look at some of the animals, even getting to help feed some of them. The lunch is delicious and at a very nice winery, followed by a tasting. The last winery had some of the best dessert wine we have had, so we ended up purchasing a case!
