‘We met in Brunswick and had a little walk to our first stop – a great Turkish restaurant. Along the way our guide Himanshi was able to give us a bit of Turkish history. Then came the serious eating. All the food was delicious, and the plates just kept on coming. No one left hungry! There was a really good range of Turkish delights. We then wandered around a couple of stores, where Himanshi explained the use of Middle Eastern spices. Our last stop was for baklava. It was a very pleasant few hours.’ Sue H

We met our guide and four other couples on Sydney Road and headed off to the first Turkish restaurant. The food was unbelievable. It started with traditional Turkish starters, dips, salads green beans, koftes and rice, and this was the entrée! The main meal was shaved lamb and chicken platters. Absolutely sensational. Desert was tea or coffee and some Turkish delight. This experience was well worth it.

This was an uninspired visit to two restaurants and an uncomfortable pop-in to two supermarkets. Not at all what was promised. No spice market, no pide, no pilaf and no history. Lots of falsehoods and generalisations. Certainly not $250 value for a couple. A total rip-off. Guide had no Turkish links and no knowledge. Narrative was very general and often wrong.

We enjoyed this experience. It not only filled us with delicious Turkish foods but also gave some of the history of Turkey. There was also the opportunity to learn about the spices used, and other aspects of the dishes we tried.
