‘Our guide Isabel was passionate and knowledgeable about Melbourne’s history and the local South Melbourne markets, and has a great relationship with the local vendors. She had organised a range of tastings and provided fantastic background stories that were delivered with a genuine love for the community. It was the best tour we have ever been on. We will be back!’ mariannes936

What you can expect
This small group South Melbourne Foodie Walking Tour will take you on a delicious journey of discovery through one of the city’s most diverse suburbs.
You’ll meet your guide and the rest of your group in Southbank. From there it’s just a hop, skip and a jump (onto an iconic Melbourne tram!) to neighbouring South Melbourne and its fabulously bohemian, gourmet and cafe culture. [More]
As you make your way around the suburb on foot, your South Melbourne Foodie Walking Tour guide will share the intriguing history of one of Melbourne’s oldest residential and commercial precincts. You’ll learn about its ancient Aboriginal heritage, its days as an infamous tent slum for gold prospectors and their families, right up to its contemporary incarnation as a colourful market village and one of Melbourne’s most desirable locales.
You’ll visit the famous South Melbourne Market and sample delicious gourmet produce as you explore the historic market halls. Your guide will also take you to speciality boutiques and retailers that only the locals know. Enroute you’ll enjoy a coffee at one of the suburb’s many superb cafes.
This South Melbourne Foodie Walking Tour finishes with a mouthwatering shared platter lunch of local specialties at one of the precinct’s top alfresco eateries, along with a local beer, cider and wine tasting.
For those who want to step off the beaten tourist track and into one of Melbourne’s most fascinating suburbs, this South Melbourne Foodie Walking Tour is a must-do!

We really enjoyed this South Melbourne experience. Highlights included a coffee tasting and a variety of locally sourced goodies, including one of the best croissants I have ever tasted! This is the perfect tour for anyone interested in learning about the history of Melbourne, and a short cut to the best places to shop at the South Melbourne Markets. So much to see and do in half a day, and worth every penny!

The tour was a great way to feel like a local when you're a tourist, and our guide Isabel quickly felt like an old friend. At each place we stopped the business owners welcomed us and took time to tell us about their food/drinks, as if this was the first time they'd been asked rather than something they do regularly. Oh and it all tasted great! I'll definitely be back to see more of the South Melbourne Markets, and to do another tour.
