On this tour you can opt for the convenience of CBD hotel pick-up or meet your ‘sports guru’ guide at Federation Square. Your first stop is Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne’s inner west. Next you’ll enjoy a drive through the 2006 Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village, and a quick (but not too quick!) lap around the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix street circuit in Albert Park. You’ll also pass by the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
This Melbourne Sports Lovers Tour then moves on to Rod Laver Arena at Melbourne Park – home to the fast and furious Australian Open tennis tournament. You’ll visit the players’ dressing rooms and learn some of the history of this venerable sporting venue.
Please note: Rod Laver Arena is currently undergoing a renovation and is not accessible on the tour. During this time, you’ll visit the spectacular Eureka Skydeck 88 for exceptional views of Melbourne and many of the the city’s key sporting venues. Rod Laver Arena should be accessible again from October 2018.
After an action-packed morning, you’ll enjoy a relaxed café-style lunch at Etihad Stadium in Docklands. Then it’s time to head off to the iconic MCG, where you’ll be treated to a tour of restricted areas that most people don’t get to see. You’ll visit the player change rooms, players’ balcony, Bill Lawry Cricket Centre and the Long Room. You’ll even have the opportunity to take a walk on the hallowed turf, before exploring the fascinating National Sports Museum.
