What you can expect
Experience the Victorian capital’s magnificent obsession with sport on this Melbourne Morning Sports Tour. What’s more, you can tailor the tour to your specific sporting interests by choosing which major venue you visit. Choose from the mighty MCG, Rod Laver Arena or the National Sports Museum. It’s a tough call!
On this tour you can opt for the convenience of CBD hotel pick-up or meet your ‘sports guru’ guide at Federation Square. Your first stop is Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne’s inner west. Home to the world-renowned Melbourne Cup — the ‘race that stops a nation’ — you’ll be able to see the grandstand, finish line/post and exclusive members’ pavilion. [More]
Next you’ll enjoy a drive through the 2006 Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village, and a quick (but not too quick!) lap around the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix street circuit in Albert Park. You’ll also pass by the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
The final stop on this Melbourne Morning Sports Tour is at your choice of venue. Choose one of the following options.
Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)
At the iconic MCG, you’ll be treated to a tour of restricted areas that most people don’t get to see. You’ll visit the player change rooms, players’ balcony, Bill Lawry Cricket Centre and the Long Room, and take a walk on the hallowed turf (all subject to availability).
Rod Laver Arena
Rod Laver Arena is home to the Australian Open and is a must-see for tennis fans. Visit the tournament control room, the player change rooms, the superboxes and VIP hospitality areas, and the media centre (all subject to availability). You’ll also have the opportunity to step foot on centre court itself (subject to availability).
Please note: Rod Laver Arena is currently undergoing a renovation and is not accessible until October 2018.
National Sports Museum
The National Sports Museum (located at the Melbourne Cricket Ground) is home to Australia’s most extensive collection of sporting memorabilia and a fabulous range of interactive and multimedia experiences. Visit the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, see the Shane Warne hologram, relive Australia’s Olympic glory and so much more.
This Melbourne Morning Sports Tour ends with a cafe-style lunch with your group of fellow sports fans at Etihad Stadium.
Please note: The order of venues visited on this tour may be changed for operational reasons. All venue visits are subject to availability. We will endeavour to inform you as early as possible if a particular venue will not be accessible on the day. A replacement activity will be provided.
