What you can expect
You’ll rendezvous with your friendly local guide in Federation Square for this Melbourne Lanes and Arcades Walking Tour. Look for the bright yellow golf umbrella! If it looks like it might rain (this is Melbourne after all), don’t panic. You’ll be issued with your own umbrella and, after introductions to the rest of the small group, the tour will get underway.
Right from the start you’ll be drawn into the history of the city, starting with the controversial design of Fed Square itself. From Flinders Street Station your guide will lead you to a lesser-known underground arcade, filled with hole-in-the-wall coffee shops, secret art spaces and eclectic boutiques. [More]
You’ll emerge at street level in one of the city’s network of famous laneways. As you stroll the narrow thoroughfares lined with coffee shops and restaurants, and full of the sights, sounds and aromas of the inner city, your Melbourne Lanes and Arcades Walking Tour guide will regale you with quirky urban myths and fascinating local history.
Then it’s time for morning tea in the Royal Arcade at boutique chocolatier Koko Black. Stomachs warmed and feet revived, it’s off to explore more of the city’s secret nooks and crannies bursting with the creative pursuits of the city’s eclectic designers and artists. Heritage arcades ooze history from their elegant architecture.
Accompanied by engaging commentary from your guide, you’ll discover a side of the city on this fabulous Melbourne Lanes and Arcades Walking Tour that many visitors miss.
We had a small group and an entertaining and informative guide. There was plenty of time to take in the sites and take photos. The complimentary hot chocolate was the best I have ever had.

This was an informative and interesting tour. Our guide had a very relaxed manner and tailored his information to our personal interests in the areas we were looking at. The coffee and chocolate stop mid way was a nice touch.

Our guide, Zoe, was very informative and wonderfully casual. The walk took us through the urban streets and we saw some retro gems that we would have otherwise missed if we had of explored the city on our own. We had a nice coffee stop and enjoyed the chocolates too.
