What you can expect
This Melbourne Chocolate Tour is an abridged version of our popular Chocolate Laneways and Arcades Walking Tour, and offers the perfect introduction to the quirky inner-city laneways and backstreets that the Victorian capital is so famous for. The best part is that you’ll get to taste lots of chocolate along the way! Over the course of the 1.45-hour tour, you’ll visit a number of chocolate salons and sample their delicious wares. There are ten included tastings in total.
Your Melbourne Chocolate Tour starts at St Paul’s Cathedral — just opposite Federation Square. There you’ll meet your knowledgeable local guide/chocolate devotee and the rest of your group. You’ll head off on foot at a relaxed pace to explore the CBD and visit various chocolate salons — of which there are many, roughly located between Swanston, Elizabeth, Flinders and Bourke Streets. One of the highlights of this Melbourne Chocolate Tour is the Block Arcade — arguably the CBD’s most historic shopping precinct. Built between 1891 and 1893, the Block Arcade is home to many fine boutiques. You’ll have some time to admire the mosaic floor, the domed ceiling, and the fine Victorian heritage detail, before paying a delicious visit to Haigh’s Chocolates. This prestigious family company has been producing chocolate since the early 1900s.
Over in Collins Street, the Ganache Chocolate Lounge will have you spoilt for choice as you decide which delectable sweet treat to try. Just down the street is the Lindt Chocolate Cafe, which offers a dazzling array of Lindt Chocolate Balls to tempt you. In the beautiful Royal Arcade, you’ll visit Koko Black and sample their fine confectionery.
Throughout this Melbourne Chocolate Tour, your guide will share interesting information about the history of Melbourne’s chocolate industry, but also about the city itself. Bring a notepad and pen to jot down the many cafe and restaurant recommendations you’ll pick up along the way!
While the itinerary may change depending on the day of your tour, one thing is absolutely certain — and that’s the fact that you’ll finish this experience with a better knowledge of the Melbourne CBD and an even greater love and appreciation for fine chocolate!
The above itinerary is provided as a guide only, and is subject to change depending on the day you take your tour.
A great way to visit chocolate shops in Melbourne and sample delights not tasted before. Very worthwhile experience.
